This image depicts a molecular model of the complex of B-DNA and the zinc finger moiety of FPG protein, and is used as a prototype system for understanding how DNA damage is recognized by repair enzymes. This research is a collaborative effort investigating the molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis in DNA repair and the recognition of damaged DNA led by Dr. Arthur P. Grollman at SUNY Stonybrook with the molecular modeling studies led by Dr. Teri E. Klein at the UCSF Computer Graphics Laboratory. Funded by the National Institutes of Health Program Project grant NCI-P01-CA47995 (Dr. A.P. Grollman, P.I.) and the National Center for Research Resources grant 2P41-RR01081 (Dr. T.E. Ferrin, P.I.).
