Announcement and Call for Papers

Population Modelling

John Conery & Ross Kiester, co-chairs

The Pacific Symposium on Biocompting (PSB) Minitrack on Population Modeling is soliciting research papers on all topics related to the application of high performance computing to understanding the dynamics of populations of plants and animals.

Examples of topics include extinction models for endangered species, forest response models, "gap analysis" of fragemented ecosystems, population inventory analysis, and any other studies that use high performance computing and communication to study the interactions between species and their environment. We are interested in all aspects of high performance computing, including parallel algorithms, scientific visualization, and scientific databases.

All paper submissions will be rigorously peer-reviewed, and accepted papers will be published in an archival proceedings volume. Paper publication is required for oral presentation. Researchers wishing to present their research without official publication are encouraged to submit an abstract for the poster or demonstration sessions.

To submit a paper to the minitrack on population modeling, send five copies by July 27, 1995 to John Conery at the address below. Papers should be less than 12 single-spaced pages long, and include a 300-word abstract. The front page of the paper should include the author's name, affiliation, telephone and FAX numbers, and e-mail addresss (if there is more than one author please designation one as the official contact).

Electronic submissions are encouraged. To submit a paper by e-mail, send a plain text file containing postscript only to conery@cs.uoregon.edu by the submission deadline (July 27). Please do not send binhexed or uuencoded or any other compressed or encoded file formats -- just mail the plain postscript.
